USS Leyte Banner

From the Webmaster's Desk

The Leyte Association's website is undergoing some changes. Donr, who has been authoring the website since its inception, has decided to pass along control of the website to me, Steve Perry, the new webmaster.

I am the grandson of Huyler Perry who served on the Leyte for a Mediterranean and a Korean cruise. I found the Leyte website when I discovered a coworker of mine is also the grandson of a Leyte veteran. Despite the countless sea stories my grandfather told, I really did not know much about his service or his ship. And, frankly, some of his stories seemed a bit exaggerated. I needed corroborating evidence.

When I visited the website, I saw Donr's announcement that the website would shut down if a new webmaster was not found. I did not want that to happen, so here I am.

Since I am not a veteran myself, I need the Association's help with content for the website. Please help me gather information for the website. Donr has created a useful website for association members who already know a lot about their ship. I hope to build on that by creating new content for those, like me, who want to learn about the Leyte and her crew. I want your grandkids and great-grandkids to learn about your service.

Please send in whatever you would put in a scrap book. Pictures. News clippings. Memoirs. Letters. Short stories. I can put them all up on the website for all posterity to learn from. Have family email these items to me at webmaster@ussleytecv32.com or contact me there and I will send you my mailing address for items you can't send by computer.

Thank you for reading!
